A Lovely place to live!
It is time for me and 'This Ol' House' to part ways. If you like history and antiques and old houses - think of us! This house was originally built in 1854 - with several renovations / upgrades since then. If you or someone you know has been thinking about doing a B&B somewhere - think of us!
Craig County is probably the most beautiful county in all of Virginia, if not further. For the most part, people mind their own business & leave others alone - unless you have a Need - and they all turn out to help get that Ox out of the ditch!
I had some health issues surface this year and can no longer keep up with everything here any more - not without considerable help. In addition, grand children are arriving and my daughter is looking forward to having me closer at hand to help her - as well as offering some help to me when I might need it - > when I get Closer to her! Right now there are 3 states between us - and that is too far!
So I have officially listed the house for sale - am in the process of painting the few parts of the outside that haven't already been enclosed in siding, making minor repairs in that arena, while hopefully improving 'curb appeal'.
This house has 3 bedrooms & a full bath upstairs + a glass enclosed porch over looking the side & back yard area; 1 bedroom downstairs + the living room, dining room, kitchen, and a full bath downstairs, too. A fantastic, Large porch shelters the entire front side of the house & wraps around one end.
In addition to the above - at the far back of the house, attached to the house, is a large work shop / storage room. Under this room is a 'root cellar' room - that needs some attention - but can be a wonderful place for many uses!
Not attached to the house is one old out building, possibly was an old smoke house, has been used as an office - is wired for electricty & has a ceiling fan light; another storage building, metal, sits between two carports between the house & the road, in the side yard area. There is an ivy clad gazabo between the kitchen door and the carport(s) - also with electricty & lighting.
From the front porch, one can see straight down Main Street, New Castle to the other end of town. Once a year in October we have our Fall Festival - and I can sit & watch it, or walk down & see things close up. This house is only about 2 long blocks from downtown - which is another 3 or 4 blocks, max. New Castle is a Small town serving as the County Seat, so there is a Court House, a Post Office, a Fire House, a wonderful Mick or Mack / IGA grocery, a dentist, several places to eat, a hardware store and two auto service / mechanic shops.
